She is an American novelist whose writing has been published in The Atlantic, The New Yorker, The Guardian, Harper’s, Zoetrope: All-Story, and The New York Times and was anthologized in The Best American Non-Required Reading and The Best American Short Stories. The Tiger’s Wife is her first novel and it was published by Random House. Obreht has been named as one of the top 20 American fiction writers less than 40 years of age by The New Yorker.
Tea Obreht was born on 30th Sep. 1985 in Yugoslavia and lived there until 1992 with her mother and grandmother. After the start of Yugoslav Wars, Tea Obreht along with her family went to Cyprus and afterwards to Egypt, led by her grandfather’s job. Obreht’s grandparents returned to Belgrade in 1997, whereas she settled in the United States along with her mother.
