Rory Mcllroy is one of the best golfers from Ireland, currently ranked 2th in the world. He was determined from his early ages that he wanted to become a golfer. It is said that Rory Mcllroy had hit a forty yard drive, when he was just at the age of 2 and put his very first hole at the tender age of nine.
Rory Mcllroy was born on 4th May 1989 in Hollywood, Northern Ireland. This golfer made his debut in a European Tour event when he had just completed his sixteenth birthday. He had to let the prize money go, due to his amateur status, when he won the Dubai Desert Classic in 2007.
As a teen Rory Mcllory set the European Tour alight by his par excellence. He gained his fan following in the Open Championship at Carnoustie where he finished 42nd and took the silver medal to complete the tournament, as the leading amateur. The amateur career of Rory Mcllory saw him conquer the entire Europe and Ireland making him the top ranked player in the World Amateur Rankings in 2007. His amateur career was very successful and later he went on to join the professional golfers and established himself as a good competitor in the European tour.
Rory stunned the world by winning the European tour for the first time as a professional golfer on 2009 and carried on the winning streak on the PGA tour the very next year. It was the year 2011 when he won his first major, in the form of US Open with a record of 16-under-par with an eight shot victory. This made him the youngest golfer after Bobby Jones, since 1923, to win the coveted title. After that win, Rory climbed to a career high of number 4 in the Official World Golf Ranking. And in November 2011, after tying at 4th in Shanghai’s WGC-HSBC Champions, Rory won jumped to the number 2 position in world ranking, his best so far.
The experts in golf considered him as a golfer who can earn more than anyone else in terms of endorsement. Rory was appointed as the Ambassador for UNICEF in Ireland and he had also visited Haiti in June 2011 with UNICEF.
