June 25, 2007 -  For the first time this season, the Staten Island Yankees have a winning streak.  The baby bombers defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades in the opening game of a three game set, with the first game having taken place in Fishkills, NY at Dutchess Stadium.

Zach McAllister made his second start for the baby bombers, and it was also his second road start.  After a short three innings outing against the Cyclones on June 21, McAllister was looking to bounce back.  He pitched 4.1 innings giving up two runs while striking out three batters.

The Yankees were the first to get on the board, scoring one run in five consecutive innings.  The first run came in the second after David Williams doubled and then advanced to third on an error by the centerfielder.  He would then score on a sacrifice fly.  Austin Krum then led off the third with a double and then scored on a two out base hit by Luis Nunez.  Williams lead off again in the fourth with a walk and then went to third on a base hit by Chris Raber; with one out a Brian Chavez sacrifice fly would plate another run.

Frank LoNigro led off the fifth with a walk and Justin Snyder singled to put two on and no outs.  Luis Nunez moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt, only for the Renegades to walk Damon Sublett to set up the force at any base.  David Williams grounded into force play at the plate with LoNigro being tagged out.  With the bases loaded and two outs the Hudson Valley pitcher threw a wild pitch to plate Justin Snyder, adding to the Yankees lead.

LoNigro would get his chance to score in the sixth inning.  After a lead off pop out by Brian Chavez, Austin Krum singled but was erased when LoNigro grounded into a force out.  A Justin Snyder walk would put LoNigro into scoring position for Luis Nunez who singled on a fly ball to center to drive in the run.

The Yankees would not score again until the eighth inning; LoNigro was hit by the pitch after Austin Krum struck out.  LoNigro was then replaced with Chris Carrara who stole a base and scored on a Luis Nunez double.  A double by Damon Sublett would bring in Nunez, giving the Yankees a 7-3 lead over Hudson Valley.

Jeff Livek got the win for the bombers and John Axford earned his first save of the year, pitching four innings.  The Yankees return home tomorrow night to face the same Hudson Valley Renegades.  Angel Reyes is scheduled to make an appearance on the mound for the bombers.
