July 31,
2007 – Braedyn Pruitt touched the bases for the second time this
season as the Staten Island Yankees defeated the Oneonta Tigers
in game two of a three game set.
Chris Farley got the start for
the baby bombers, his second at home. Farley pitched four
innings, not allowing a run on four hits while striking out
three. The game was dead locked at zero until the top of the
fourth inning. After Chris Carlson singled to left, he moved to
second with one out on a passed ball and would score on a single
by Jorge Patino.
Staten Island would even it up at
one in their half of the inning. Jose Gil led off with a ground
ball single to left and moved to second when DJ Hollingsworth
laid down a sacrifice bunt. Gil would move to third when Austin
Krum flew out to centerfield and come into score when Matt
Morris belted a single to centerfield.
The game did not stay tied for
long as the bombers would take a two run lead in the fifth
inning. Damon Sublett led the inning off with a walk and then
Braedyn Pruitt belted his second homerun of the season. Staten
Island would plate an insurance run in the seventh inning after
two consecutive doubles by Taylor Holiday (4) and Damon Sublett
(12).
Craig Heyer got the win for the bombers pitching
four innings, giving up one run on two hits with two
strikeouts. Jonathan Ortiz came in to pitch the ninth to get
the save after allowing a homerun to dead centerfield.
Oneonta and Staten Island will meet up again
tomorrow night to finish the series. Zach McAllister will take
the mound for the Yankees.
