July 29, 2007 – Taylor Holiday
belted his first professional homerun when he hit a fly ball over the
left field fence at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in a 10-5 loss to the
Tri-City Valley Cats. Holiday went 3 for 5 on the night, scoring
two runs and belting a double to go along with the big fly. The
bombers had twelve hits but left ten men on base in the contest.
Adam Olbrychowski got the start for the baby bombers, his sixth on the
year. Olbrychowski lasted just 3.2 innings. Olbrychowski
walked four batters and gave up five runs while allowing five hits.
He turned it over to Nick Chigges in the fourth inning. Chigges
got the final out in the fourth with a pick off at first. He would
go to get the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing one run on four
hits. Daniel Kapala made his professional debut in the eighth
inning allowing four runs on four hits, only two earned.
The bombers plated their first run in the third inning. Justin
Snyder and Taylor Holiday belted back-to-back singles to right with one
out and after Damon Sublett lined out, Braedyn Pruitt belted a line
drive to right field for a double and an RBI. The run made the
score 2-1, but a three run fourth would give the Valley Cats a 5-1 lead
over the baby bombers.
The bombers would come alive in the fifth inning, after Justin Snyder
led off reaching on an error Taylor Holiday doubled to put two men in
scoring position. Both runners would come in to score on a Damon
Sublett single. Sublett would move 90 feet into scoring position when
Braedyn Pruitt singled and both runners would advance when David
Williams sacrificed. Sublett came in to score when Luis Nunez
singled, making it a one run ball game. Two consecutive strike
outs would end the inning with two men on base. Staten Island
would tie the game in the sixth inning when with two outs Taylor Holiday
belted a solo-homerun over the left field fence.
The scoring would end there as the bombers were unable to get any other
runners home. Five baby bombers had multi-hits in the contest with
Holiday leading the way with three hits. Justin Snyder, Braedyn
Pruitt, Damon Sublett and Luis Nunez all had two hits.
Staten Island will return home tomorrow night as the baby bombers will
take on the Oneonta Tigers in a three game set. Game time is 7:10
pm with Ryan Pope scheduled to make his second appearance at home.
