Bombers Bring Out Bats in Win
Yanks sweep Ironbirds in their
final meeting of the 2007 season

– The Staten Island Yankees brought out the bats as they swept the
Aberdeen Ironbirds in their final meeting of the season.
The Baby Bombers struck
early as they scored 4 times in the bottom of the first inning. Justin
Snyder led it off reaching first on a throwing error and stole second,
advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher with 1 out. Damon
Sublett then drew a walk to put 2-men on with Jose Gil at the plate.
Gil then belted the ball to the shortstop for an RBI force out and
Sublett out at second. DJ Hollingsworth then singled on a fly ball to
center, both Gil and Hollingsworth would move up 90 feet on a wild
pitch, putting 2-runners in scoring position. David Williams walked to
load the bases for Chris Raber who then belted a fly ball single to
center for 2 RBIs and moving Williams to third. Austin Krum lined a
single to right field, giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead.
The Yankees would pad
their lead when they came around 6 times in the fourth inning for a 10-2
lead over the ‘Birds. Austin Krum knocked his first homerun of the
season to leadoff the inning. Brian Chavez then singled on a line drive
to left and Justin Snyder walked to put 2 men on and no outs. With
Taylor Holiday at the plate both runners would move up on a wild pitch
and then score when Holiday belted a ground-rule double to left.
Holiday then moved to third on a Damon Sublett single. Jose Gil then
struck out while Damon Sublett advanced to second. DJ Hollingswoth then
lined a single to center, scoring Holiday and moving Sublett to third.
With 2 outs Hollingswoth stole second before Chris Raber singled to
center for his second 2-RBI base hit.
Zach McAllister got the
nod for the Yankees, making his 14th start of the season.
The former third round draft choice went 5 innings to earn the win.
McAllister allowed 3 runs on 9 hits while striking out 5. Craig Heyer
came in to start the sixth inning for the Baby Bombers and pitched 2
innings allowing no runs on 1 hit with a strikeout.
The Bombers plated 1
more in the bottom of the sixth; Jose Gil led off the inning with his 13th
double of the season. DJ Hollingsworth then walked and David Williams
singled to bring home Gil and give Staten Island an 11-3 lead. The
scoring was not done there as the Bombers plated 3 in the seventh for a
14-3 lead. Damon Sublett had a 1-out triple to right and then scored on
an RBI single by Jose Gil. Gil would moved up to second and DJ
Hollingsworth reached on a fielding error by the second baseman..
David Williams then singled to load the bases for Chris Raber.
Raber then belted his third 2-RBI single of the game for the Yankees
13th and 14th runs.
The player of the game
was Chris Raber who was 4 for 5 with 6 RBIs. Austin Krum, DJ
Hollingsworth, and Damon Sublett also had multi-hit games for the
bombers. Justin Snyder has been slumping of late and was held hitless
for the second consecutive game by the Ironbirds. The Bombers
scored the most runs and had the most hits this season, platting 14 and
belting 18 hits.
The Staten Island
Yankees will host the Hudson Valley Renegades on Thursday night with
Adam Olbrychowski scheduled to make the start.
